Gerdean Mattingly Platter passed away in her Metairie home surrounded by family on Monday, October 10, 2016. She was born on February 16, 1924 in Corsicana, Texas.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan DalBello (Patrick) and Sandra Denny (Otway); her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sandra, and Patricia DalBello; Laura McAuliffe (Edward), Rebecca Denny, and Otway Denny; and her great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Margaret McAuliffe.

Gerdean was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry Wooten Platter.

She graduated from Texas Women’s College with a degree in Mathematics. She worked at Humble Oil Company, where she met her husband, Harry. They were transferred from Texas to Louisiana in the early 1950’s and never left. Over the years, they lived in New Orleans, Grand Isle, Port Sulfur, Gretna, and Metairie.

Gerdean had a larger-than-life personality and a true zest for life. She enjoyed Mardi Gras, holidays, playing bridge, wild flowers, and, most importantly, spending time with her family. She turned every event, from family vacations in the Caribbean to simple shopping trips with her grandchildren, into unforgettable adventures. She was a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church and the Women’s Guild.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to her three caregivers, who looked after Gerdean and Harry so well in their home in the final years of their lives.

Services are being held privately.
