Elsie grew up in Rome, Georgia, the only girl in a large family of boys. She lost her father at a very young age and learned from a loving and strong mother how to raise and care for her family. Anyone who knew Elsie knows that her family was her passion. Growing up only blocks apart, she married the love of her life, Robert Vernon “Bob” Boswell, and enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 59 years together before his passing in 2012.

Elsie always had a tender heart towards the elderly and small children. Once her children were old enough, she volunteered at at nursing home in Metairie, LA where she raised her own family of six children. She was very involved in her church, First Assembly of God in New Orleans, and worked in any capacity asked of her. After running the church nursery for years, Elsie opened the daycare at First Assembly with her youngest daughter and one other child. She grew the daycare to over 125 children. Years later, she took over the church bookstore, Manna Bookstore, which served not only the church but the entire community of New Orleans. In that capacity, she, too, touched the lives of many people and shared her love for the Lord and what He had done in her life and the life of her family. People often came by just to see Elsie.

Elsie followed two of her children into their workplaces later in her life. She first worked at the Hotel Ste. Helene in the French Quarter of New Orleans, where she stepped in to serve as an Asst. Manager. She always loved the French Quarter and working with guests from all over the country and the world, and they loved her. After a move to Hattiesburg, MS in the 1990’s, Elsie went to work for her son’s mortgage company, Century Mortgage, before she retired to spend her remaining time with Bob.

Following Bob’s illness, they returned briefly to Metairie, LA, ironically to the facility in which she first volunteered. After his passing, Elsie remained with her children until her failing health necessitated additional care. She was a resident of the Old Jefferson Community Care Center in Baton Rouge, LA when she passed, but each of her children remained extremely close and involved throughout her time there.

Special thanks are extended to the management and staff of Old Jefferson Community Care Center, particularly to her nurses Linda, Kathy and Carla. We would like to also extend a thank you to a few special CNA’s who provided daily care for our mother- Kim, Vanessa, Erica, Addie, Allegra and others on the 200 Hall. All those whose words or touch comforted or provided care for our Mother are so deeply appreciated. We would also like to extend our deepest thanks to Hospice In His Care, who provided excellent end of life care for our mother, as well as support to our family throughout the process. Jeannette, Paula and Christy- we are so grateful for all you have done for Elsie. And finally, we would like to thank two special people, Tiosha Khodr and Talisha Reames, who provided direct daily emotional support and assistance with meals throughout her time at Old Jefferson. The care you gave to Mom will forever be remembered and appreciated by our family.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Graveside services will be held for the family at 2:30 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, MS.

Charitable donations are encouraged to either the Louisiana Kidney Foundation, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, or Charlie's Place (an Alzheimer's/dementia respite center) in Baton Rouge, LA. Each of these holds special meaning to our family this year, or flowers are also welcome as Elsie loved flowers.
